This week we are reading
Parashat Noach פרשת נח
- Torah
- Genesis 6:9-11:32
- Haftarah
- Isaiah 54:1-55:5
The הַפְטָרָה Haftarah is the reading from the Prophets that goes with the פָּרָשָׁה Parashah. Traditions differ on a handful of weeks in the year, and the one above is the Ashkenazi reading.
What the morning holds
Our liturgy comes from a Jewish סִדּוּר Siddur, a book of set prayers and blessings, and we pray it holding that יֵשׁוּעַ Yeshua is the promised Messiah. Blessings, song and a reading from תּוֹרָה Torah make up the morning.
When the service ends we stay and eat together. That time is called עֹנֶג Oneg, delight.
We meet on the special Holy Days through the year as well, in the same way: blessings, song and food.
Shabbat begins and ends
The hours of the day itself, not a service time
שַׁבָּת Shabbat lasts from candle lighting on Friday evening to הַבְדָּלָה Havdalah on Saturday night. We gather within it on Saturday morning: Saturdays at 10 a.m.
- Begins
- Friday, October 16 at 6:47pm
- Ends
- Saturday, October 17 at 7:54pm
The times are worked out for where we meet and shown in local time. Havdalah here is reckoned at 50 minutes after sunset, so a community that keeps a different reckoning will close שַׁבָּת Shabbat at a different hour.
New here?
If you have never been to a Messianic service, here is what actually happens, so that nothing about the morning is a surprise.
